The USB port is protected by the flipping rubber lids which is a great feature to have it. This can protect the USB port from external dust, water or any harmful substances.

As for the USB port compatibility, it has same principle (as the Armor A30) which has a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Interface with USB 2.0 backward compatibility. And of course, you don’t need to guess whether you are using USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port. Just remember: Blue LED Light for the USB 3.0 and Red LED Light for the USB 2.0 port.

FILE TRANSFER SPEED TEST/BENCHMARK:

– Via Netbook USB 2.0 Slot with NTFS Filesystem

Silicon Power Armor A60

– Via PC Desktop USB 3.0 Slot with NTFS Filesystem

USB 2.0: sequential read speed is about 34.34 MB/s, while the sequential write speed is about 32.60 MB/s.

USB 3.0: sequential read speed is about 119.50 MB/s, while the sequential write speed is about 118.60 MB/s.

Using the result of both benchmarks, it is clear you will have good and beneficial result using USB 3.0 interface than the USB 2.0 interface. It has an impressive sequential read/write speed for a Portable HDD.

File Copy Test (from HDD to Armor A60) using PC Desktop USB 3.0 slot

To see the actual file transfer speed, using approx. 1.45GB file/s from HDD (source) then drag it to Armor A60 (destination) to copy the file to it. It took about 15 – 21 seconds for the whole transfer to complete, with a file transfer speed (ranging from 109 – 113 MB/s).

From the test, we can say that sequential write speed is actually fast enough to copy huge amount of file/data in a single transaction.

Summary/Verdict:

The Silicon Power Armor A60 has strong exterior and impressive performance in the inside. The sturdy plastic and hard rubble type side is a plus factor to professionals who would use this Portable HDD for daily usages/activities. The USB 3.0 with USB 2.0 backward compatibility, LED indicator, USB port protection cap is thumb up to my taste. The sequential read/write speed has an excellent performance for daily file and data transfer. Armor A60 external features is huge boost to the device, with 3 year warranty, and a price tag that you wouldn’t mind at all.

  1. wow its a water resistant, dust and shockproof with no expensive. i would like to buy one, but do they have a pure black color? i dont like the neo green color.

  2. Hello,
I just bought this one but there is no software with it. I tried to download spwidget from its website but download link is not valid. I request you to provide me a valid download link or mail the software on my mail if possible.
Another thing is that I am getting only around 30mb/s write speed on usb 3.0 port while copying pics and it varies in between 25 and 35mb/s for all other data. Why it is too low. Is it because m not using spwidget software or any other issue. I checked drive format and found it FAT file system. I am using window 8, i3 laptop. Please help me in this matter. I will be great help.
    Thanks
