XPERIA M5 DUAL DESIGN:

The Xperia M5 Dual form factor has a resemblance on its predecessor M4 Aqua, with the distinctive OmniBalance design, in a sleek glass finish on front and back of the device. The glass finish is a either Corning glass or scratch resistant leaving you a worry free from external minor scratches and is easily prone to smudges, smears or fingerprints.

Sony Xperia M5 Dual

The front display has a 5-inch Full HD IPS, which gives you crisp and a fine resolution than M4 Aqua (which is only at HD IPS display). The sides are covered in a metal frame giving you a premium and sturdy looking smartphone.

On top of it, there is a sensor, the earpiece and the 13MP front camera for selfies.

You can also see the 3.55mm headset jack in and the microphone.

The bottom part is almost vacant except for the mouthpiece located at its center.

Around the bottom part, there is a speaker and Micro-USB 2.0 slot. The speaker has a decent sound quality and a fine tune even in the highest setting. You may find the speaker has a minimal bass on it, this is so (maybe) due to waterproof protection. The Micro USB 2.0 slot has no longer covered by a flap which is great and hassle free data transfer and charging, all thanks to the special coating built in the port.

The back part has a sleek glass finish, featuring the 21.5MP main camera with LED flash. The NFC and Sony logo were at the center and the Xperia logo just at the bottom part of it.

PERFORMANCE (UI, APPS and FEATURES):

Sony Xperia M5 Dual
Xperia Z (left) | Xperia M5 Dual (right) – M5 is little biggie on its form factor

The 5-inch FHD IPS Display has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels or simply @1080p resolution versus its predecessor M4 Aqua which uses HD Display at a lower resolution @720p. The display performance was great enough either multimedia or gaming experience just like on premium Smartphones like Xperia Z3.

Sony Xperia M5 Dual
Xperia M5 Dual is a waterproof smartphone!!! 😀

Since it has a FHD display @ 44ppi, added power consumption needed to supply its demand on producing crisper and sharper display. Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 is an added enhancement to your viewing experience (whether video or still image) which is not bad at all.

The viewing angles were excellent, no loss on display quality you might try the manual brightness mode versus the auto mode. You might set the brightness to the highest level, when you’re out and under the sun. Color rendering were fine and accurate, contrast were sometimes out of the realistic mode due to color enhancement by Mobile Bravia Engine 2. No need for display calibration, you may find yourself satisfied on the default settings.

The Xperia M5 Dual has the same UI (User Interface) from its former or rather predecessor M4 Aqua. The good thing is that, the M5 Dual now comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Giving you a fresher look without losing the touch of Xperia UI signature. Perhaps the happy side you can get is the integration of Google Now service, you can say hello or let the Google do the rest.

Since the Android 5.0 OS running on its device, you may find it better platform and comfortable with the minor changes. From the lockscreen (can select 3 types of clocks), quick shortcuts on the dialer and camera at the bottom corners of the screen. The screen can be unlock whether password, face, pattern, pin or slide (or depends on your security settings).

The homescreen still feels great; you can add shortcuts or widgets or even change its UI theme. You can add more panels to navigate and put shortcut apps as you wish. The drop down notification area still at Lollipop stock functionality and everything seems great and working properly.

For multitasking, the Xperia M5 Dual still uses the Android 5.0 stock app/task manager, so you can view the recently opened apps and can even close them one by one or all at once. Floating apps also present and seems working as it should be, you can see it at the task manager, tap it and you’re good to go.

XPERIA M5 DUAL (POWERED-PACK SPECS):

Sony Xperia M5 DualSony Xperia M5 Dual

Xperia M5 Dual is equipped with 64-bit Octa-core processor (2.0 GHz) / MediaTek helio X10 (MT6795) chipset, 3GB of RAM and PowerVR G6200 of GPU, another superb Smartphone produce by Sony. The only question at hand is the SoC or chipset they put into the Xperia M5 Dual. In which, it is unusual from them to go through the unfamiliar game of hardware. If you can recall about the Xperia C, it has a MedtiaTek chipset that they already tried it out however; it is too long from them to launch another device with the same hardware. Nevertheless, the Xperia M5 Dual performs better than M4 Aqua, it has faster CPU considering it has 8 Cortex A53 cores, faster internal memory and RAM.

The PowerVR G6200 GPU maybe you haven’t heard of, it is newly introduce on the GPU battleground versus the Xperia M4 Aqua’s Adreno 405 GPU. We can say it’s a win for Xperia M5’s GPU but for the long run, the M4 Aqua’s GPU is also newer and support more hardware and technologies in the market. We can’t say that the power of PowerVR G6200 outshine the Adreno 405 or vice versa. Fortunately, you won’t feel a difference unless tested by benchmarks and physically used it on daily task/multimedia.

The device is also bundled with 16GB of internal storage and can be expanded via microSD card slot up to 200GB. That’s good news for those hoping to add more rooms on their device as everything seems mobile on putting more data/music/video or whatever it files on their devices. We still hoping for the Marshmallow update to come in which, you can entirely benefit from the combined internal + external storage (hope that story is true, let’s just wait and see).

The 3G HSPA+ and 4G LTE seems working fine while using it via web browsing or even downloading files. You may experience a heat from the upper back of the device. While it is normal from any device, the heat was tolerable and can manage it with a gel case or leather case so you won’t feel any heat (or less heat depends on the case).

Using the phone for calls and text messages were working fine as well as the Dual SIM works flawlessly via Nano SIM trays. Setting the mobile data usage and switching over one SIM to another is quite easy without an expert and mastery needed. You can change it via the settings without pulling out the SIM card tray.

NOTE: You can only use one 3G HSPA+/LTE connectivity or mobile data network at a time.
The Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and other wireless connectivity works well with no issues so far.

While using the HDR mode via 21.5MP resolution, the photo(s) because brighter and more realistic in my opinion. It seems the HDR mode does a trick to enhance the colors, sharpness and as well as the contrast.

SAMPLE VIDEO CLIP

Sony Xperia M5 Dual

The device can do 1080p videos with impressive good resolution and in details. What’s even greater is the capability to do video recording via 30fps (which is normally we have on other previous Xperia M series) or 60fps for an option to do an impressive video results. This is a sample video clip of XPERIA M5 Dual in HDR mode – 1080p@30fps (1920 x 1080 resolution). From what I see here, the colors/details are impressive, the contrast were great and with added sharpness.

Autofocus seems better on holding up the focus on the videos (change it to single autofocus to get better results). SteadyShot features still alive and kicking (equivalent to Digital Image Stabilization), it has a sensor that can detect whether shooting on handheld or via dock/camera pod. However, using the SteadyShot can reduced the FoV (Field of View) and of course, the video quality of it.

The huge leap among other Xperia M models is the ability to capture awesome 4K videos with impressive colors/details in good light conditions. All thanks to the CPU/Chipset – MediaTek Helio X10 and its GPU ~ PowerVR G6200, bond together to power up the 21.5MP camera and its resolution to capture high-end videos on 4K quality.

XPERIA M5 DUAL BATTERY LIFE:

Sony Xperia M5 Dual

In terms of battery life department, the Xperia M5 Dual is equipped with Li-Ion 2600 mAh battery pack and expects the phone will last within a whole day between normal-moderate usages. If you go for moderate-heavy usage, the phone will last to 6-7 hours. If you think about the horsepower of the MediaTek Helio X10 Chipset plus the Full HD Display, they should upgrade its capacity to at least 3000 mAh (or better yet at 3500 mAh). You can conserve its battery life via Settings – Power Management and enable the STAMINA mode or other settings that might give you the power saving idea.

  1. smooth ng likod at harap then yung sides maayos din omnibalance yung style. pero nagdadalawang isip ako kung bibilin ko to kasi nga maraming issues daw.
