Sony SBH20 Overview:

Sony’s Stereo Bluetooth Headset – SBH20 is a wireless stereo headset that lets you pair the device from any Smartphone via *NFC and/or Bluetooth connectivity. In which, you can use the SBH20 to make calls or listen to your good tune of music.

DESIGN

The Sony Stereo Bluetooth Headset SBH20 has minimalist design, a simplistic square shape (measuring at 33.3 x 33.3 x 12.3mm) that you can carry anywhere you can even put it at your pocket.

The Sony SBH20 has a plastic matte finish and very light (with a weight of 12.3 grams) that you won’t even notice the difference between holding it or while it is inside your pocket.

Previous key – Play previous track | Music key/Call key – Play/Pause the current music, Answer incoming calls, Press and hold down to reject incoming calls. | Next key – Play the next track.

Below the Music key/Call key is the NFC detection area, make sure the **Smartphone has the NFC function and turned on. Just place the phone over the SBH20’s NFC detection area and follow the pairing instructions appeared on the phone. If ***passcode is required, you may enter 0000.

**Note: If NFC is not available on the Smartphone, used the Bluetooth function to pair the SBH20. To do that, just turn on the headset, press and hold down the Music key/Call key until the notification light flashes blue. After that, use the Smartphone to scan for available Bluetooth devices until the SBH20 is available in the device list.

PERFORMANCE/TEST:

USING NFC FUNCTION TO CONNECT ON XPERIA DEVICES: As for the performance and test goes, it can connect without any hassle or issue. The NFC function connects smoothly enabling the Bluetooth connection afterwards the NFC connectivity established between the devices.

USING BLUETOOTH FUNCTION TO CONNECT ON OTHER SMARTPHONE/TABLET (NON-XPERIA DEVICES): Same goes with the NFC Function (however, without a straightforward approach), as you can easily connect the SBH20 wireless headset to other smartphone/tablet or bluetooth enabled devices without any issue. You just need to enable your Smartphone Bluetooth and then scan for the available Bluetooth devices until SBH20 wireless headset is on the list. (It may require the Smartphone/Tablet for pairing instructions or passcode that you need to enter in order to pair the devices.)

RANGES: Bluetooth connectivity between two devices ranges from 11-12 feet. Add 2 feet, you’ll experience the sound started to suffer until you add 6-8 feet it will completely disconnected.

SOUND: The sound quality is quite good, with enough bass and treble for average music lovers. The sound is clear and rich even in the top volume without any difficulty within neither bass nor treble field.

MAKING CALLS: As for calls usage, the voice/sound is average and sometimes you might encounter thin voice/sound. But for daily indoor usage, you’ll be alright as the voice/sound is audible enough. However, in outdoor usage, you might experience the inaudible voice/sound, quite depressing on noise cancellation department, we can say that it all depends on what environment or location you are (whether you are on the busy streets, traffic jam or in a middle of the storm, that’s totally a different story).

BATTERY: Sony SBH20 promises 6 hours of battery life in continuous usage, while somewhat true (if volume is in low-mid usage, bluetooth range is close between two devices). But otherwise, the most expected you can get is between 4 to 5 hours.

VERDICT: Great product by Sony, the Stereo Bluetooth Headset – SBH20 does the job for being wireless headset to make calls, listening to music or turn your wired speakers into wireless stereo speakers. As mention, if you’re an average music lover or don’t mind about the battery life, then surely this product is a best buy for you, considering the price point which is around $20 USD. Rating: 7.5/10
