GALAXY S7 EDGE DESIGN:

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Dual SIM

The new Galaxy S7 Edge release in slick and elegant metal unibody with a tough glass to both front and back panel of the phone (just like its predecessor Galaxy S6 Edge). It is exciting to see that Samsung change its image to refined and tasteful appearance. It’s a premium, cutting edge design – effortless beauty that I can say.

One of the biggest wow factor is the curved edge screen, you may hate it or not, it depends on your taste. Throughout the day, we haven’t encountered problems using it. If you’re new to curved display, at first, you might drop the phone due to boundless design (or not – my hope for you ^_^) than the S7 rounded rectangular counterpart (so secure a hard case for your peace of mind – a must have for Galaxy S7 Edge users).

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Dual SIM

It feels smooth and slick, a handful to one hand (might need to handle it on both hands). You might find it difficult to hit the buttons on the curved display, especially when playing games or apps that you need to touch something to it.

Overall, the 5.5-inch curved display is darker and crisper, no need to adjust contrast nor sharpness.

The earpiece is located at the top along with the sensors and LED light notification from the left side, and also the 5MP front-facing camera on the right side of it. The front-facing camera has a decent quality and can perform well on low light condition but far from an impressive state.

Around the top part is the SIM/microSD card tray and the microphone. As for the SIM/microSD card tray (or Hybrid SIM card tray) allows users to insert a microSD card for up to 256GB and one Nano-SIM card or used 2 Nano-SIM cards at a time. If you remember about S6 Edge issue, the consumer complained about lack of microSD card slot which really gives us not-so-wow factor in that department. Anyway, in the new Galaxy S7 Edge you won’t feel the same drama, as the company includes the Hybrid SIM card tray. Although not nearly an expected solution, still a best bet than the previous model that won’t give you a choice at all. They also include the eject tool pin for removing the Hybrid SIM card tray easily.

The bottom part has a capacitive touchscreen buttons (task/app button from the left and the back button from the right side). The middle one is a physical home button integrated with fingerprint sensor/reader. The capacitive touchscreen buttons were invisible until you touch the screen or touch one of them to light it up.

Around the bottom part, the 3.5mm audio jack in at left side, the standard Micro-USB port at the middle and the speaker with small holes at the right side (the loudspeaker were great and loud but far from superb state).

The volume buttons (up and down keys) were on the left side, while the right side got the power button.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Dual SIM

The Gold Platinum Galaxy S7 Edge model look stunning at the back, kind of felt luxury and durable Smartphone. From the back part, you got the 12MP rear camera with LED flash and a heart rate sensor at the right side. It seems they already found a way how to lower down the camera bumps that’s a good news. There is also a shiny Samsung logo, the DUOS logo and also the regulatory texts from the lower part of it.

GALAXY S7 EDGE – DISPLAY, UI, APPS, AND FEATURES:

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Dual SIM

The 5-inch Super AMOLED Display has a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels or simply Quad-HD resolution. The display performance was great and at premium quality to deliver its best either multimedia or gaming experience.

[metaslider id=9310]

Thankfully, the device carries 3600mAh battery were good enough for the long period of display. The viewing angles were great though there were times that viewing is uneasy due to reflections cause by curved screen. However, the contrast, sharpness and color details are superb enough to give you a premium quality pictures/videos at display. You might set the brightness to the highest level, when you’re out in the sun.

The Galaxy S7 Edge has a customized Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS using its TouchWiz UI running out of the box. Still same old UI that you can swipe unto it, create folders and throw your favorite apps inside the created folder. If you don’t like the idea of the app screen, you can turn the homescreen loaded apps/icons that you have. Buried beneath on the Settings thru Galaxy Labs, though it was an experimental feature that you would to try out.

[metaslider id=9331]

At the left side of your homescreen, there is a news reader called Briefing. You can also create another page of your homescreen, change its wallpaper and themes, add widgets and change your screen grid.

From the lockscreen, there is a quick dialer (swipe it to the right to launch), unlock (in the middle, swipe it up to unlock the phone) and the camera (swipe it to the left to launch). The screen can be unlock whether password, pattern, pin or swipe (or depends on your security settings). Another thing to like is the Always-On display feature which you can turn on/off on the Settings thru Display options. What it does? Well it’s like a screensaver that you can choose whether it’s a clock, calendar or image thru Content to Show options. It has limited styles to choose from and it can also display battery status and notifications thru standby mode. A little concerned if it does takes too much battery juice? Gladly, all thanks to intelligent display – AMOLED and white pixels which we don’t mind on using this feature due to low power consumption.

[metaslider id=9347]

From the edge screen, you can swipe to call out the Edge Panels – the white tab from the left or right side (you can change its Settings from Edge ScreenEdge PanelEdge panel handle settings). You can also change its transparency and size and other settings you might need to adjust on your liking.

[metaslider id=9376]

One notable thing about Edge Panels is the ability to shortcut functions such as app shortcuts, people edge – where you can add a contact person for text/call, weather edge, news edge (CNN, Yahoo and the like), compass and many more. You can download more edge panels which can be acquired for free or paid version. There are couple of pre-loaded apps such as Microsoft apps, Samsung Apps (S Health, S Voice, Galaxy Apps, Samsung Galaxy Life), WhatsApp, Instagram, and other apps might be useful to you or not. Other thing that common to Galaxy Smartphones is the Split-screen view that allows you to work with two apps simultaneously. Only works to limited apps and to launch it, you need to hold-press task/recent app button then select an application to be viewed. You can also resize the screen but you cannot change its arrangement.

[metaslider id=9373]

The default system keyboard is the Samsung Keyboard which you might find it simple and intuitively design. For multitasking, you can use the task/recent button to go back and forth to your used applications. You can even close them one by one or all at one.

GALAXY S7 EDGE – PERFORMANCE:

The one we have here is equipped with 64-bit Octa-core processor (2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad) – Samsung Exynos 8890 chipset, 4GB (LPDDR4) of RAM and Mali-T880 MP12 of GPU. There is another version of this which has 64-bit Quad core processor (2.15GHz Dual + 1.6GHz Dual) – Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset and with Adreno 530 of GPU. We haven’t got the Qualcomm version to test whether which version, has the overall advantage and whose winning in terms of performance. But as far as the Samsung Exynos test goes, it has an excellent performance to deliver smooth and lagless experience between multi-tasking apps and gaming concern.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Dual SIMSamsung Galaxy S7 Edge Dual SIM

The device is also bundled with 32GB of internal storage (24.2GB user available) and can be expanded via microSD card slot up to 200GB. It also supported with USB-OTG functionality for file transfer and sharing. The 3G HSPA+ and 4G LTE seems working fine while using it via web browsing or even downloading files. Using the phone for calls and text messages were working fine as well as the Dual SIM works flawlessly. Setting the mobile data usage and switching over one SIM to another is quite easy without an expertise needed. Just take note that you can only use one 3G HSPA+/LTE connectivity or mobile data network at a time. The Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and other wireless connectivity works as well without issues.

[metaslider id=9383]

Heat may rise on the upper back of the device while on using camera, gaming or web surfing (via mobile data or Wi-Fi) which is normal and quite tolerable at hand. The heat rises when you charge it with fast charging capability (you can disable it via SettingsBattery) and/or using intense mobile data plus video/gaming at the same time within a long period of time.

  1. great review sir, though i am quite disappointed on the storage capacity, they should beef it up to 64GB for the said price mark.

  2. the curved display is the best and i like the notification preview on the edge. the always on display (displays the time and notification) weer great! i love it!

  3. hard to find tempered glass, i should stick to non-edge galaxy s7. but then again its a great phone to have.

  4. its expensive but worth to have smartphone. its okay not have tempered glass on the screen, the front glass is durable enough on scratches.

  5. may mga murang phone na din lumalabas ngayon. maganda na rin ang specs. hinihintay ko pa din lumabas yung xperia xz most okay yun hindi ngeexplode yung battery.
