HDD and SDD Overview:
In today’s modern technology, computing devices varies in terms of concepts, platforms and applications. Data storages is one thing to mention, like for example if you engage in multitasking such graphic and video editing, 3D graphic designing, or gaming purposes, data handling or transfer rate is important to good ratio in production and also in terms of performance.
In terms of mechanical disk drives (such as HDD), data transfer rate is up to 100MB/s and varies between the computing device setup (whether it is in IDE or SATA 2 or 3). Every HDD has its own data transfer rate limit, let’s say if you have SATA 2 (the max limit is around 300MB/s) while on SATA 3 (the max limit is around 600MB/s).
Now imagine this, if you have HDD with max limit up to 150-200MB/s, then it doesn’t matter whether you have a SATA 2 or SATA 3 compatible connection.
Plextor’s SSD: M6 PRO 2.5” SATA SSD with PlexTurbo
So what’s the point? To break the data transfer rate limits in HDD, SDD (Solid State Drive) was form to replace the traditional mechanical drives (Hard Disk Drive), to maximize the potential of data transfer rate and improved production / performance of it.

M6 PRO Features/Performance/Benchmarks:
Plextor M6 PRO is PlexTurbo, software that uses some of the system RAM as an ultra-smart RAM cache; this bypasses the limitations of the 6 Gb/s SATA III channel and maximizes performance. Plextor refers to it as second-generation RAM caching software because the smart software overcomes the disadvantages of existing caching technology. Not only does PlexTurbo outperform competing technology, it minimizes RAM usage, uses active data comparisons to prevent unnecessary writes, and even prevents RAM cache data loss during crashes or power interruptions.
PLEXTOR M6 PRO Features:
– Using a new generation of A19 nm Toshiba toggle NAND flash, a generous on-board cache, and the latest Marvell multi-core controller, the Plextor M6 PRO is able to take hardware performance to the practical maximum and provide ultra-stable performance at 6 Gb/s.
– Break the Speed Barrier with Plextor’s high-performing, high-class SSD to meet any storage challenge your computer can throw at it.
– Sequential Read Speed: 545 MB/s – Sequential Write Speed: 490 MB/S – Random Read Speed: 100,000 IOPS – Random Write Speed: 88,000 IOPS.
– Plextor’s exclusive solution boosts performance up to 10 times the above values, shattering the SATA 3 limitations and reaching speeds other SSDs just can’t match. Speeds using exclusive PlexTurbo were up to ten times faster during testing.
– Extreme stress testing (1008 hours) in special FLEXSTAR testing systems to create flawless 100% pass rates for maximum reliability.

PLEXTOR M6 PRO BENCHMARKS
(Note: I’m using Windows XP system, MOBO: ECS H61H2-M12 1.0, 4GB DDR3 of RAM, 2.60 GHz Intel Pentium G620 Dual-Core. Within this setup, I can only provide test/benchmark on SATA II 3 Gb/s interface, not in SATA III 6Gb/s. Therefore, there will be a decrease to performance/test.)
ATTO Benchmark via PC Desktop (SATA II 3Gb/s) – NTFS Filesystem (without PlexTurbo)
Based on the result, the read transfer rate is about 240 MB / Sec, while the write transfer rate is about 220 MB / Sec. Considering I haven’t use SATA III 6Gb/s Interface with PlexTurbo software, if we approximate or double the results of SATA II 3 Gb/s (to approx. SATA III 6 Gb/s Interface) this would be the final results:
SATA II 3Gb/s: Read – 240 MB / Sec | Write – 220 MB / Sec
SATA III 6Gb/s: Read – 480 MB / Sec | Write – 440 MB / Sec (2x to approx.)
Within this data, we can say that it can reach up to 545 MB/s of read transfer rate and 490 MB/s of write transfer rate. Take note I haven’t applied the PlexTurbo via SATA II 3 Gb/s results.
CrystalDiskMark via PC Desktop (SATA II 3Gb/s) – NTFS Filesystem (without PlexTurbo)
Another benchmark test, for sequential read speed is about 245.5 MB/s, while the sequential write speed is about 230.8 MB/s.
SATA II 3Gb/s: Read – 245.5 MB/s | Write – 230.8 MB/s
SATA III 6Gb/s: Read – 491 MB/s | Write – 461.6 MB/s (2x to approx.)
HD Tach via PC Desktop (SATA II 3Gb/s) – NTFS Filesystem – without PlexTurbo – Sequential Read Only
From here, the sequential read speed is about 250.4 MB/s.
SATA II 3Gb/s: Read – 250.4 MB/s
SATA III 6Gb/s: Read – 500.8 MB/s (2x to approx.)
HD TUNE PRO via PC Desktop (SATA II 3Gb/s) – NTFS Filesystem – without PlexTurbo – FILE TRANSFER SPEED BENCHMARK
File Length: 500MB
Sequential Read Speed: 231702 KB/s(or 231.7 MB/s)
Sequential Write Speed: 227361 KB/s (or 227.4 MB/s)
SATA II 3Gb/s: Read – 231.7 MB/s | Write – 227.4 MB/s
SATA III 6Gb/s: Read – 463.4 MB/s | Write – 454.8 MB/s (2x to approx.)
CrystalDiskMark via PC Desktop (SATA II 3Gb/s) – NTFS Filesystem (with PlexTurbo)
Another benchmark test, but this time, with PlexTurbo for sequential read speed is about 371.5 MB/s, while the sequential write speed is about 490.7 MB/s.
Take note, I haven’t using SATA III 6GB/s interface, so probably the result maybe higher.
PERFORMANCE/SPECS SHEET BASED ON PLEXTOR (OFFICIAL SITE):
Judging from the test/benchmark, the read and write speed has an excellent transfer rate and not to mention, i haven’t test it with PlexTurbo application, which would help to increase the data transfer rate.
VERDICT: Plextor M6 PRO 2.5-inch SATA SSD has technology that features excellent data transfer rate (in read and write sequential speed). Accompany with accessories to mount it in PC Desktop and CD utilities that would help you to backup and clone your drive to a Plextor M6 PRO is a great tool to have, within a simple instructions and clicks then your on to work again. User Experience and Rating: 10/10
