Sorting Cell Data or Values on MS Excel

How to Sort Cell Data or Value in Microsoft Excel 2007, 2010 (with Data Headers
by: Revengsky Joseph D. Reyes – rjdreyes

Having all the data mix up or not in order? For instance, you need to track each data according to the values from smallest to highest. A quick sort does the job on handling the data (from the smallest to highest values or vice versa, or an alphabetical order).

(Note: In Sorting Data on Excel, it would be a best practice to put data headers, data headers are the name/type of the certain data/field. For example, ANIMALS and NUMBERS are data headers shown in this guide.)

1. At MS Excel 2007 or 2010
Drag the fill handle for the appropriate range you want.

2. Use the Sort and Filter option then an option will be given to you.

Sort A to Z – sort/alphabetically arrange the data/values from A-Z.
Sort Z to A – sort/alphabetically arrange the data/values from Z-A.
Custom Sort – (more options, particularly if you want to select which data headerswill be used for sorting)

3. Let’s try to Sort the data from A to Z. (Ops… I think, a sort warning suggesting an option to be taken. See the below output.)
Automatically Fill Numbers on Rows or Columns in MS Excel
Explanation: If you just select one data/field, it will automatically ask you, if you are aware that you are only going to sort the selected data and the next to it, we be ignored. It will ask you an option to: Expand the selection – which also select the next data attached to your current selection or Continue with the current selection - just sort the selected data.

If the selected data and the next to it have a connection to each other, then you may want to select Expand the selection.

Click Sort after you had your decision. An example output of the Expand the selection, see below screenshot. Read more
