How to fix Folders becomes shortcut icons on removable disk drive due to virus – Windows OS a quick solution guide

File/Folders becomes shortcut icons? When you insert your removable disk drive such as USB flash drive, external hard disk, memory card, etc. to your PC, suddenly this kind of frustration happens. It can be cause by a virus such as trojans or worms or alike. You may also think that your removable disk drive is corrupted. (Note: If this happen, do not format your removable disk drive right away, we can still save your files in no time.)

But I’ll save you from this stress and frustration, a quick fix and solution I can offer to you is simple. 🙂

1. If you PC is running Windows OS (such as XP), perhaps try this, click Start and then click Run. (Note: You can also launch the Run command, by using shortcut keys on the keyboard, press Window Key + R.)

2. At Run, Type cmd. From the command prompt, type this following command:

attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*

Where g: is your removable disk drive letter as for an example, it may varies upon your computer drive letter. So better to check first and change it on the command.

3. Press Enter key after the given command successful input, then wait until it finish doing its work. Then check your removable disk drive, if the files or folders are now visible. You may see some strange or not recognized files, you can delete them. Backup your files/folders that are important or crucial to you, before you format your removable disk drive.

(For security reasons, you may ask try to scan with your antivirus to check for any further viruses)
